Teachio locks the entertainment apps on your child's phone and, when their screen time runs out, asks one question from their own school curriculum. A correct answer returns them to what they were watching. During the wait after a wrong answer, the app tells the child what they got wrong and why — that is the difference between a guard and a teacher.
About these images. No screenshots were taken — Family Controls does not run in the iOS Simulator — so these are exact mock-ups drawn from the SwiftUI source. Every layout, footer and error state matches the code, and each screen is labelled with the file it comes from.
About the language. The app interface is currently Estonian only. The English wording below is the proposed localisation, so this page doubles as the English copy deck: each label here is the string that goes into the app when it is localised.

User guide
The whole setup takes about five minutes and you do it once. You will need both phones.
Install Teachio on your own phone
Open the app and choose „I'm a parent". Create an account with your email and a password — the family name is up to you.
Add your child
Tap ＋ in the top right. Enter a nickname, birth year and month, and school grade. The app suggests which grade's material to use — confirm it or change it with the stepper.
Material grade is not a "level". It maps one-to-one onto the school grade: a grade 4 child gets grade 4 material. It rises by one automatically every 1 September unless you lock it manually.
Choose subjects and difficulty
Settings and grade → switch on the subjects your child should revise. Each subject shows how many questions exist for that grade — if it says "no questions yet", don't choose it.
This is also where you set the interval (10 minutes is recommended), how many correct answers in a row are needed to unlock, and how long the wait after a wrong answer is.
Test coming up? Pick the topics
Settings → Revise for a test. Browse your child's curriculum or search a topic by name ("Fractions", "Mammals"). Choose a whole chapter or individual lessons — questions will then come only from those. Up to 20 selections at a time.
If the chosen topics run out of questions, normal questions continue. Your child is never left locked out.
Create a pairing code
Link child's phone → Create pairing code. You get eight characters, valid for 15 minutes and usable once.
Pick up your child's phone
Install Teachio there too, open it and choose „This is my child's phone". Enter the code and tap Link phone.
Create a parent PIN
The first time, the app creates the PIN right here. Choose digits your child does not know — this protects the entire setup. Five wrong attempts locks entry for a minute.
Grant Screen Time permission
Two options, and the difference matters:
With Family Sharing — the strongest. Your child cannot delete the app or revoke permission. Requires the child to have a Family Sharing child account.
Quick setup — faster, but your child can revoke permission in Settings. You will see this as a red row on your phone. If you choose this, close the gap as well: Settings → Screen Time → Lock Screen Time Settings and create a passcode your child does not know.
Choose the apps and start
Pick the apps Teachio manages — YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, games. Tap Save and start. From that moment, deleting apps on that phone is blocked.
Done — everything else is remote
You never need to touch your child's phone again. All settings change from your phone and arrive by the next question at the latest.
Check the protection status row now and then: green means everything is running, red means permission has been taken away.

Frequently asked
Can my child turn protection off?
Not in Family Sharing mode. In quick setup they can revoke permission in Settings — the protection status row on your phone then turns red and tells you what to do. Deleting apps is blocked in both modes.
What happens when the chosen subjects run out of questions?
The app falls back to the neighbouring grade (±1), then to the nearest grade that has content. Your child is never left locked out — that is a deliberate decision.
Can my child skip the wait by closing the app?
No. The wait and the explanation survive the app being closed, and the pending question does not change.
Why doesn't the question change after a wrong answer?
Because then nothing would be learned — the child would simply wait for an easier question. The same question comes back with the explanation until it is understood.
